Performances in Erlangen (Experimentiertheater)
Getting to the theatre
Peformances take place in the Experimentiertheater, Bismarckstr. 1, 91054 Erlangen.
Location
The theatre is located in the basement of the university building in Bismarckstr. 1 (Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology). Follow the signs from the main entrance.
Parking
There is unfortunately no visitor parking, but limited on-street parking is available in Bismarckstraße and Kochstraße (free after 7pm). Please pay attention to the signs and be aware that there are also many residents-only parking spaces in this area.
Public transport
The bus stop Hindenburgstraße is immediately in front of the university building. Buses 289, 290 and the cityline service 299 stop here. This bus top is within the free bus travel zone.
If you are arriving in Erlangen by train, it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the theatre. Alternatively take bus 289, 290 oe 299 to Hindenburgstraße.
Particularly if this is your first time attending one of our performances, please allow enough time to get to the theatre as we may not be able to admit you if you arrive late.
At the theatre
Accessibility
The theatre is located in the basement and can be reached by stairs from the main entrance or by lift from tower ‘C’ to the right of the main entrance. There is a ramp from the street to the main entrance.
Wheelchairs can be accommodated in the auditorium. Please let us know that you will need space for a wheelchair when booking tickets.
Box office / tickets
The ticket desk opens 45 minutes before the performance commences.
Children
Not all of our productions are not suitable for young children. The production information will show what age a play is suitable for. This is a recommendation unless stated otherwise.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult (parent or legal guardian). Children under 6 years old will not be admitted to the theatre.
Cloakroom / coats and bags
There is a cloakrom available free of charge but we advise guests that this is not monitored, so please do not leave any valuable items there. Coats and small bags and other items that will fit under your seat may be taken into the auditorium, but we ask you not to bring large bags or rucksacks. Any bags too large to be safely taken into the theatre will need to be left in the cloakroom.
Interval and runtime
All productions have a 15-minute interval. The total runtime of a production is usually not known until shortly before the opning night and will be displayed on the production page. Most plays have a runtime of between 2.5 and 3 hours including the interval.
Latecomers
We cannot guarantee admission to latecomers who arrive after the performance has started. This is to avoid disturbing the performers and the audience. Guests who arrive late may be admitted at our discretion at a suitable break in the performance if this is possible, but depending on the production this may not be until the interval.
Refreshments
Cold drinks are available from 45 minutes before the performance starts and also during the interval. We serve most drinks in plastic bottles which may be taken into the theatre. Please note that glass bottles, glasses, or open drinks containers may not be taken into the auditorium.
Performance in Lauf (Wenzelburg)
Getting to the theatre
Performances take place in the Kaisersaal of the Wenzelburg, Schlossinsel 1.
The car park Pegnitzwiese (entrance from Karlstraße) is just a short walk from the castle.
There are regular trains from Nuremberg (journey time approximately 20 minutes). It takes around 10 minutes to walk to the castle from the station.
Accessibility
Due to the nature of the building, there is only limited access for those with reduced mobility as the auditorum can only be reached by stairs.
Wheelchairs can be accommodated in the auditorium. Please let us know that you will need space for a wheelchair when booking tickets.

Cloakroom / coats and bags
There is a cloakrom available free of charge but we advise guests that this is not monitored, so please do not leave any valuable items there.
