FAQ
Ticket reservations

You can reserve up to 10 tickets in one name for a single performance. If you need more than this number, please submit a group booking request.

Please be considerate to others and only reserve the number of tickets you actually need and cancel any that you do not.

All EDS productions have free seating, so there is no possibility to reserve a specific seat.

Tickets can be collected and paid for at the box office at the performance location from 45 minutes before the performance commences. Reserved tickets must be collected at least 20 minutes before the performance. Please note that we are only able to accept payment in cash.

It helps us to find your reservation quicker if you can show your confirmation, but this is not necessary to collect tickets. We just need to know the name of the person the tickets are reserved for or the confirmation number if you have one. If the tickets have already been paid for, however, you may be asked to show a suitable identity document to collect these tickets.

Reserved tickets will only be held until 20 minutes before the performance starts. If the performance is not sold out, you will of course still be able to buy tickets after this time, but if it is sold out and we do not know you are definitely coming, your tickets may be sold to somebody else.

We recommend reserving tickets to avoid disappointment, but we often also have tickets available to buy on the evening of the performance. The box office opens 45 minutes before the performance commences.

At this time it is only possible to reserve tickets for collection on the evening of the performance.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept credit and debit cards at the box office so tickets can only be paid for in cash.

As we only ask you to pay for the tickets on collection, you do not need to tell us in advance what type of tickets (standard price / reduced price) you require.

When you collect the tickets you will be asked to show proof that you are entitled to reduced price tickets (e.g. a student ID card).

Yes, we will ask to see proof of status for reduced price tickets. If you are collecting reduced price tickets for another person, please also remember to bring their proof of status. We accept the following:

  • For students: university-issued student ID card, ISIC card, or an immatriculation confirmation document together with valid photo ID
  • For school pupils: school-issued pupil ID card, ID card or passport showing that you are under 18, or other official document that shows you are currently attending school
  • For registered disabled persons*: Disability identity pass (Schwerbehindertenausweis)

*One person accompanying the registered disabled person is also entitled to a reduced price ticket.

You can cancel your reservation by replying to your confirmation email to let us know.

If you need to add tickets to your reservation: please place a new order via the website for the additional ticket(s)* using the same name and email address. These will automatically be added to your existing order at the box office.

If you need fewer tickets than you have reserved, we would appreciate it if you would let us know by replying to your confirmation email.

*Please note: If you order more than 10 tickets in total for any one performance, we may need to contact you for confirmation.

As we are entirely non-profit-making, we are unfortunately unable to offer any discounts on our regular prices for group bookings.

Yes, the tickets can be collected and paid for individually, although we do prefer them to be collected together if possible.

Please note: if one person pays for all the tickets but would like the members of the group to collect them themselves, we will need their names and will also ask to see appropriate identification from each person before their tickets can be collected.

Tickets that have already been collected and paid for are non-refundable. However, they may be returned subject to the following conditions:

  1. the performance is sold out
  2. we are able to resell your ticket

In such cases we will refund the full value of the returned ticket. If we are unable to resell your ticket we will unfortunately not be able to offer you a refund, however, we would be pleased to exchange it for a ticket for another performance of the same production if this is possible.

FAQ
Joining the EDS

Maybe you’ve seen some of our plays, are interested in theatre, or just want to get involved with a fun group of people. Even if you have no ambitions to become an actor or actress and can’t even see yourself on stage: if you have an interest in theatre and the English language, there is plenty to do off stage as well.

Whilst the majority of our members are currently students of the FAU, this is not a requirement.

We usually rehearse Mondays to Thursdays from 8 – 10.30 pm in front of the Audimax in the main university building, Bismarckstraße 1, in Erlangen. For most of the semester only the director need be present for every rehearsal. Principal actors usually have to rehearse on 2 – 3 evenings while smaller parts may require only one rehearsal per week. The weeks before the performances, however, demands a very large time commitment from all those involved, so please bear this in mind before committing to a part.

We perform two plays every year – one week in February and one week in July / August.

Introductory meetings are held in the first teaching week of each semester (usually mid-April for the summer production and mid-October for the winter production) where you can find out more about what possibilities there are and tell us how you would like to be involved.

Actors, singers, dancers, make-up artists, stage designers, stage builders, costume makers, lighting technicians, sound technicians, poster and programme designers, ticket sellers, gophers, dogsbodies, and general factotums are always welcome to come along.

A production on this scale is not possible without many people to do the many jobs.

Whilst suggestions are always welcome from members, there are many factors to take into consideration when deciding which play to perform – not least the usually large number of people who wish to take part. The EDS is not a democracy, however, and the play is always chosen and cast by the director.
