The Cherry Orchard is the final play by Anton Chekhov, written in 1903 and first performed in 1904. It is a tragicomedy that explores themes of change, loss, and the passage of time.

Through subtle dialogue and the rich subtext he is known for, Chekhov’s play is a human portrait of a society in transition, blending humour with quiet tragedy. Set against the backdrop of major social change in Russia following the emancipation of the serfs, the play reflects the decline of the aristocracy and the rise of a new social class.
